Directed by David Zucker, Naked Gun was a parody film released in 1988 about a fictional cop Frank Drebin who was well known as the worst cop in Los Angeles. The film followed Drebin as he attempts to solve a crime that he thinks is being committed by the villainous ex-football player 'Otto' who is supposedly attempting to take over a run down amusement park called 'Funworld'. Though the film is a parody of police procedurals, the film's character 'Otto' is actually well known for being an anti-hero in real life. The real life 'Otto' was the founder of 'Funworld' and had no desire to take over the park, but was convicted for fraud by his stockholders who wanted their money back. The Naked Gun began as a series of videos that were released in 1984. The videos were released by David Zucker Productions and starred Leslie Nielsen, Priscilla Presley, Michael Richards, George Kennedy and Robert Vaughn. The videos featured several characters who parodied famous television shows at the time. The videos were produced by David Zucker and Richard Solomon, the two main writers of Airplane!, they would go on to be nominated for an Emmy Award for their work on Airplane! They would go on to produce the Naked Gun series which was released in full-length feature. The Naked Gun series begins with ""The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!"" The film is an official sequel to ""Naked Gun 1 & 2"" and stars Leslie Nielsen, Priscilla Presley, Michael Richards, George Kennedy and Robert Vaughn.
